Special Sandy Spots…

Ahoy there, beach bums! Are you ready to explore the most beautiful beaches on the Yorke Peninsula? Grab your sunscreen, shades, and surfboards, because we're about to dive into some fun and quirky beach adventures! We know we need to write this blog, but even we’re having trouble choosing our top spots!

One of the best things to do while on the Yorke Peninsula is to partake in some water action! We love to drive down to the beach, set up and spend the day (dreaming about never leaving) …

Make sure you pack to while away some hours! We have a lot of things for you to use at Uncle Matthew’s, including a beach umbrella, eski and beach toy’s for the kids!

To compile this list, we’ve thought about places that are so gorgeous, you’ll be speechless. These are beaches that you can’t find in Adelaide. White sand, crystal clear water and utterly magnificent.

  1. Flaherty’s Beach -

You’ll find Flaherty’s Beach on the western side, at the top of the ‘foot’ of Yorke Peninsula, about 232km from Adelaide (about 2.5 hrs drive). It sits between Hardwicke Bay and Point Turton (just before Point Turton, not far from Warooka). The easiest way to get there from Uncle Matthew’s is to take the cutline straight across. It’s about 34 km away but well worth a visit. If you have a 4WD you can drive right along the pristine 9.4km of coastline all the way from Hardwicke Bay to Point Turton.

Flaherty’s has been dubbed “the most beautiful beach you’ve probably never heard of” but word is getting out. The sand is pristine white and the water is crystal clear. We highly recommend driving to the top of the hill in Point Turton to check out the view of the beach from a different perspective (cue jaw drop!)

HOT TIP: Once you’ve spent the day at Flaherty’s and driven up to Point Turton to check out the view, it’s nice to stop at the pub on the top of the hill for dinner! This is one of our favourite ways to spend a day on Yorkes.

2. Shell Beach Rock Pool -

At the beach, life is different. Time doesn’t move hour to hour but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides, and follow the sun.

Do you want to star in your own beachy montage? This is the spot for you!

Take note: This area is not patrolled, I’d take lifejackets for kids and definitely best for low tide as it can get swallowed by the sea. There is a $12.50 entry fee to Innes National Park.

Shell Beach is a popular beach and campground on the north shore of Innes National Park (about 20 kilometres from the visitor centre) and the turn-off is well signed. Take the stairs down to the beach and turn right to walk to the far end (east) until it becomes rocky and reefy. The pool is hidden among some tall rocks about 20 metres from the shore. Many people have trecked here with a tagged photo and then not been able to find it. Believe us, it’s there and it’s breathtaking.

Crystal clear, bring your snorkel, dive down and explore another world…

3. Marion Bay -

The surfer's paradise If you're a fan of gnarly waves and salty air, then Marion Bay is the beach for you! Not only is it a surfer's paradise, but it's also a great spot for fishing and swimming. Don't forget to explore the sand dunes and cliffs for some Insta-worthy photos.

Cliffs a plenty!

4. Stansbury -

The family-friendly gem! Looking for a beach that's perfect for the whole family? You can’t go past our local beach right here in Stansbury! With calm waters and plenty of space to build sandcastles, this beach is a popular spot for families with kids. Plus, there's a jetty for some extra fun and fishing.

There’s also a cool pontoon for jumping and splashing action. You can set up under the permanent shade structure, which is great for younger children and babies. This beach is a very short stroll (across the road) from the famous Dalrymple Pub! We highly recommend grabbing some chips in a cone for lunch!

(If you’re lucky, you’ll see a gorgeous double rainbow at sunset, like we did. It’s something magical etched in our hearts. There were two rainbows, side by side and the most stunning reflection we’ve ever seen. It looked like a Monet)

5. Innes National Park:

The rugged beauty - If you're looking for a beach with a little more oomph, then head to Innes National Park. With secluded coves, rocky shorelines, and stunning coastal scenery, this beach is a nature lover's dream. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like seals and kangaroos!

Our favourite parts of Innes are the shipwrecks and lighthouses! Definitely set aside an entire day for adventuring!

There’s a beautiful beach that sometimes shines bright turquoise blue, you can walk down the middle, if you time the tides.

6. Port Vincent:

The party beach!

Ready to party on the beach? Head to Port Vincent! With a pub opposite and delicious (and famous fish and chip shop right on the sand) beach activities like volleyball and jet skiing, this beach is a lively spot for those who want to let loose and have some fun in the sun. We have been known to frequent Port Vincent for the delicious ice creams too!
